"Seeing the Strings: A Series of Teach-Ins on the Oppressions that Hold Capitalism Up" presents CAPITALISM & PATRIARCHY
Furthering our understanding of capitalism as a system that intersects with other form of oppression, this event focuses on sexism, patriarchy, and gender. While at first glance these issues may seem separate from economic capitalism, we'll explore how, actually, capitalism is deeply reliant on valuing genders in different ways. We'll also explore how separating a gender analysis from an economic analysis is harmful to our movements, and perpetuates injustices.
Join us for presentations and a workshop to explore:
How is sexism fundamental to capitalism?
How does violence against women and gender-nonconforming people support capitalism?
How does defining our own relationship to gender undermine capitalism?
Where: SFU Harbour Center, room 1400.
When: Friday, June 1, 2012. 7-9pm (Rescheduled from an earlier date)
Cost: By donation, no one turned away for lack of funds
